Monique’s experience as a CoRe volunteer

Monique V.jpg

Name: Monique Velani

Company and role:
Macquarie Group, Senior Manager

BIG Alliance programme: CoRe

Organisation you’ve been matched with: The Maya Centre

Why did you decide to volunteer on this specific programme?
I have always been passionate about women’s rights and health. The volunteer program gave me an opportunity to support a cause near where I live that directly impacts and improves women’s lives.

How have you found the programme so far? What have you enjoyed?
The program has been insightful – it has really pushed me and the volunteers to think outside the box, come up with interesting solutions that are both practical but also budget conscious. I have enjoyed learning about the organisation, the challenges they face, and being able to support them by coming up with recommendations and improvements that can be easily implemented to help the organisation prosper.

What do you hope to have achieved by the end of it?
I hope to have helped the Maya Centre create a better user experience for the women seeking to access their services. From improved website design and social media content, we will have created an easier pathway for women to access the centre’s services.

What advice would you give to your colleagues who are thinking about volunteering?

Do it! It will challenge you in ways you weren’t expecting but also allow you to apply some of your corporate skillset to something meaningful to create real change in people’s lives.
