BIG ALLIANCE IS 10 YEARS OLD!

2022 marks the 10th anniversary of the launch of ELBA’s Islington based satellite project, BIG Alliance. Businesses for Islington Giving (BIG) Alliance was established in 2012 as a partnership between Islington Giving, The Macquarie Foundation and ELBA. The BIG Alliance team deliver a range of Community and Education themed volunteering programmes, working with 10 local businesses to support the Islington Community.

Islington is one of the most unequal places in the whole of the UK. An estimated 47.5% of children in the borough grow up in poverty, 34% of over 60’s live in income deprived households and Islington’s population has one of the highest rates of mental ill health in London. It is therefore essential that we continue to provide support to the amazing people that live here.

Over the course of the year, BIG Alliance will be celebrating the incredible contributions of our business partners, and the remarkable work of community organisations in the borough of Islington, through a series of articles. Each month we will explore how a business gives back to the local community and how community organisations harness the time, skills and expertise of employee volunteers to deliver their vital interventions.

In the autumn we will host an exciting celebration event to mark BIG Alliance’s 10th Birthday. We hope that you will join us there! We are immensely proud of the achievements of the past 10 years and are looking ahead to decades more of creating social change in Islington.
