Giulia’s experience as a Mentoring Works volunteer
Why did you decide to volunteer on this specific programme?
To improve some of my skills like listening, speaking, and communicating in general, and then to make an impact on someone else’s development. I would have loved to have a mentor at that age. That is a particular age, no adult can make an impact there, but a mentor perhaps can.
How have you found the programme? What have you enjoyed?
I enjoyed every chat I had with my mentee. I enjoyed getting to know her, discussing with her about her aspirations and dreams, discovering and making sure she’s aware of her strengths, see that she’s lot more confident now.
What do you hope to have achieved by the end of it?
I hope to have improved those skills like speaking and listening, but I also hope I have made an impact on my mentee personal development, helped her to see things differently, become a more confident person able to achieve everything in her life.
What advice would you give to your colleagues who are thinking about volunteering?
It’s a great experience, it’s a learning journey and it’s a giving to the other experience that will make you feel good!
