Michael has taken part in a number of our Team Challenges. Below, he reflects on his experience of volunteering through BIG Alliance.
Why did you decide to volunteer on these specific programmes?
I think it’s crucial that Islington-based businesses give back to the communities within which we work. I like learning about Islington’s community and the challenges that it is facing.
One of the Team Challenge activities that we’ve done with my team and one of our clients was the “supermarket sweep” challenge, buying food for the ARC’s food bank. This was a fantastic event that not only helped my team understand the challenges within Islington, enabled them to have fun working together as a team but also made a difference to many people. A few of my colleagues have continued to support The ARC as a result of this opportunity which is great!
Throughout the various Team Challenges I’ve taken part in, I have gained a greater understanding of the social challenges faced by Islington residents. I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunities organised by The BIG Alliance as it’s easy to see the impact volunteering for one day can have. I would tell my colleagues who are thinking of volunteering “Do it, you won’t regret it”.
