Name: Hannah Guirao

Company: Macquarie Group

Role: Senior Manager in Regulatory Risk

BIG Alliance programme: CoRe

Supporting: Rich Mix

Why did you decide to volunteer on the CoRe programme?
Having seen lots of amazing people do amazing things to help others during the pandemic, I sat at home wondering what I could do out in the community that would use the skills I have. When my firm asked for volunteers to sign up to the BIG Alliance CoRe programme to help local organisations in their next chapter, I jumped at the chance.

How have you found the programme so far? What have you enjoyed?
Despite joining the programme remotely, I have found it really well organised, friendly, and frankly rejuvenating after a tough year. The Rich Mix team have been super welcoming and I’m looking forward to meeting them in person in June.

What do you hope to have achieved by the end of it?
I hope to have been a “friendly critic” for the Rich Mix team some different views and ideas on how they can strategically build stronger or different corporate relationships as London opens up post-pandemic.

What advice would you give to your colleagues who are thinking about volunteering?
Don’t be afraid of the unknown. On the face of it, an organisation might be asking for skills that are not in your comfort zone. However, it’s very likely you will find that just listening and giving an initial view based on your professional experience will help them figure out the next step to solve a problem.
