Name: Ieva Marcinkeviciute

Company and role:
Slaughter and May,
Business Development Manager

BIG Alliance programme: BoardMatch

Organisation you’ve been matched with: The Maya Centre

Why did you decided to apply to become a trustee?
I have really enjoyed being part of the CoRe programme and helping out a charity on a specific project. Once the project ended, I was keen to continue being involved in the charity sector. The Maya Centre immediately stood out for me as it strongly aligns with my core interests and values surrounding mental health and female empowerment.

How have you found the experience of being a trustee thus far? What have you enjoyed?
I have really enjoyed being a trustee, which is backed by my wish to be elected to serve as a trustee for another year. As a member of the fundraising committee, I am currently running a campaign to raise additional funds by selling unique cards designed by one of our art therapists!

What have you gained from becoming a trustee (e.g. developed new skills, met new people, learned about something new)?
It allowed me to use and develop my skills outside of my day job, make a positive impact on the community and connect with like-minded women.

What advice would you give to your colleagues who are thinking about becoming a trustee?

Choose a charity that is close to your heart and you feel a connection to!
