Expedia Group come out in force for ‘Month of Caring’
Luke Brown
Community Project Manager, BIG Alliance
Back in September, 149 staff from Expedia Group’s London office volunteered 476 hours of time through BIG Alliance during their annual ‘Month of Caring’ initiative.
BIG Alliance worked with Expedia Group’s CSR Committee to organise 18 volunteer projects supporting Islington and east London communities. Volunteers helped across a mixture of virtual and in-person opportunities; from socially-distanced teams of 6 working outside to spruce up adventure playgrounds and primary school environmental projects, to groups on Zoom writing letters to older, isolated residents.
The positive impact of the letter writing sessions was not only felt by the older residents receiving the letters, but also the volunteers themselves with lots of high praise from those who took part:
“This is such an amazing project ... I sent an envelope full of cards and some of my children’s drawings earlier today, hoping to brighten up someone’s day.”
“An excellent workshop. It was so lovely to work with everyone.
What an amazing initiative.”
Our community partners were also quick to offer thanks to volunteers, especially those who lent a helping hand to maintain Islington’s ever-important green spaces:
“Thanks so much to BIG Alliance for organising the volunteer days and a very big THANK YOU to volunteers from Expedia Group for their wonderful work. With their help, we have positively transformed the school grounds and gardens for the children.”
Sophia Ioannou, Environmental Tutor for six Islington primary schools
“Thank you so much for another wonderful group of Expedia Group volunteers. It was amazing how much got done. Thanks to your hard work the playground is now a lot safer and looks tidier and more welcoming.”
Annie Cook, Playground Coordinator, Crumbles Castle Adventure Playground
And finally from us at BIG Alliance, a huge thank you to Expedia Group volunteers for rising to the challenges of 2020 and continuing to support Islington communities. Your support is appreciated more than ever!
